Are you using the GI Bill or Tuition Assistance Program?
To what degree does the GI Bill/ Tuition Assistance Program cover your school expenses?
For me, it covers 50% tuition, 50% fees, 50% housing, 50% books.
What prompted you to return to school?
I'm interested in personal growth and advancement.
Was adjusting to university life a challenge after military life?
In some ways, yes. The university culture is different yet similar in some ways also.
What has your experience at UND been like?
My experience has been outstanding. I can’t say enough about the tremendous staff, professors, and students at UND. They are one of a kind and truly great people.
Do you believe your military experience has made you a better student? If so, how?
Yes, without a doubt. My career field in the military required a great deal of study and assessment and in some cases required regular assessments over short periods of time. I truly learned how to study in the military and learned how to discipline myself to study as well as to tune out the static and distraction to focus on study, as well.
What advice do you have for veterans returning to school?
Choose a good school like UND! The Veteran program available for students at UND under Ms. Carol Anson is top notch and not even closely matched by any other universities which I have experienced. Ms. Carol knows the veteran programs inside and out and she is the kindest lady you will ever meet. She advocates for her Veterans and she runs a top quality program for veterans.
They (UND) truly value Veterans and treat us well. I would say keep an open mind when selecting a field of study. Know the outcome you are looking for and make the most of your university experience. Seek the field of study that is of interest and intrinsically inspires and matches your skills and strengths.
Any additional comments you would like to provide?
My experience at UND has just been exceptional and advanced me to another level. I have a tremendous program under Dr. Sherry Houdek in the Educational Leadership Program.
